For Clean Environment :)

If we can't stop the global warming, we can slow it. We can create paths to cut carbon emissions and reduce the bad effects of global warming. There are 51 steps that every one of us can do in order to help pur planet and our lives. the site below mentioned those steps breifly in an attractive way. Hoping you all will get he benefit of this site:
If you do the first step, you can do all the 50 remaining steps. ^^

Who Should Take Action? !!

After reading the article which is written by Johann Hari in the site below:
http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/johann-hari/johann-hari-well-save-the-planet-only-if-were-forced-to-784893.html
I understood that Hari wants from his article to show for people some important points about the global warming. These points including:
  1. Every one from now should stop pollute the earth and start the be aware about what s/he is doing for the planet in order to reduce te effects of global warming. It is the time of the truth, is every one truly check every item s/he takes and look if it is green and plant-freindly?
  2. The actions of some people towards the solving of global warming are too small compared to the big effects of global warming.
  3. He mentioned that the environment of the planet has been changed 10,000 years ago in when it was impossible to develop agriculture. In those days, the situation is called by climatic chaos, but after that the situations are settled down and so the way of living. In this period, the situation is called by Holocene in which people for the first time could develop farming and cities. Nowadays, this period is ended by pumping the greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and a new period comes when the humans make the weather of the planet; this is called by the Anthropocene.
  4. He said that there are large group of people who really are aware of the global warming and they always did things that reduce the global warming effects such as the changing the lightbulbs and turning down the thermostats. But in the other hand, although they are essential parts of solutions, it is not even the beginning of a solution.
  5. Hari said that every one should pressure the government to let all people required by law to burn fewer greenhouse gases.
  6. While every one who is a green-freindly buys products which are good for the global warming and reduce the effects of this problem, it is more useful to be a volunteer for greenpeace rather than use your time for your personal greener choices. In addition, people can share their issues about the global warming during the Green campaigns.

In my point of view, I agree with those points because they are realstic for every one who share this planet with others. Even if there are many people who think about the global warming as a big issue, there are still some people who should be forced by the green-laws that should be applied. In order to let Abu Dhabi to become a cool city, those laws will let more people to move more steps towards the solving of global warming in UAE. Abu Dhabi's government should put laws for people who burn more greenhouse gases, who pollute the envirnment with waste poducts, and even for those who pollute the planet with noise.

Masdar City: Video ^^

This video is very useful and contains a lot of information about Masdar City in Abu Dhabi:

~~~~~
Masdar City: City of the Future !!
Masdar is the name given to the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company that is made in April 2006 to embrace renewable and sustainable energy technologies. Masdar City is a project that is done by Masdar and will let Abu Dhabi to become a cool city. Masdar city is designed to be the world's first zero-carbon, zero-waste, and car-free city. Masdar city will contain sustainable transportation, waste management, water and wastewater conservation, green construction, buildings and industrial materials, recycling, biodiversity, climate change, renewable energy and green financial institutions. The three major aims for Masdar city are having zero carbon emissions, having zero waste and having zero fossil fuel consumption on site. All the waste products will be recycled in Masdar City, and the desalinated water will be reduced by 80%. They hope that cycling and walking will be the only transportation ways. In my opinion, I hope this city will become an important part of Abu Dhabi area. Peopl here in UAE should accept this project with all its charachteristics in order to help this planet from the dangers of the global warming.
The site below is for Masdar, it will be useful for you:
Al Raha Beach :)
Al Raha Beach is one on the developing areas in Abu Dhabi which will contain many different facilities to the tourists and locals. This video clip will provide you with all the views of Al Raha Beach.
Have a nice watch :)
Yas Island :)
I liked this video clip that i have seen in You Tube. It shows all the aspects of life in this whole city. It is really like a whole city with completed standards of living although it is a part of Abu Dhabi city.
I hope you all see this video. :)
Cont. Developments in Abu Dhabi:
Desert Islands are multi-experiences for both tourists and people who lived in Abu Dhabi. They are located in the western coastline of Abu Dhabi and developed by TDIC and Masdar. It will consist of eight islands; Sir Bani Yas Island, Dalma Island and the Discovery Islands – six nearby offshore outcrops - which will be linked by a ferry and hydrofoil service, water taxis, private ‘resort’ boat service and regional and sea planes.
In my opinion, those islands will improve the environment in Abu Dhabi because people will be use a transport system free from the use of feuls that used in cars and buses. Boats will be used as a main transport way, and most of those deserts will contain a wide spaces of green areas. I hope all those developments will help Abu Dhabi and all the emirates to become cool cities that reduce the effects of global warming in UAE.
The website's address below can give you useful information about Desert Islands:
Abu Dhabi: The Developments & Cool City!!
Abu Dhabi is the most beautiful cities in UAE that have now doing different developments in those years. I hope those developments will make Abu Dhabi the first cool city in the UAE. Qasr Al Sarab and Desert Islands are the coolest and most interesting developments.
~~~~~~~~~~

Qasr Al Sarab is one of the projects that will be done by TDIC in Abu Dhabi’s Liwa desert crossing the Empty Quarter (Rub Al-Khali). It will have have a five star hotel, a luxury health spa, conference centre, adjoining excursion and tented villages, a children’s playground and an observatory. South Africa’s Northpoint (Pty) Ltd desighned Qasr Al Sarab.

I think this project will be very useful for people here in UAE and especailly in Abu Dhabi because it will provide the different facilities beside the beauty of nature and fresh desert air. In my point of view, this area will be very celan with many green areas because of the palms trees which will clear and cool the air. This will let Abu Dhabi to go one step towards having a name of "Cool City".

~~~~~~~~~~
Cool City Project: Is It realistic for UAE?
Cool city is the city that has special charachteristics and different standards of living. As every one has special charachteristics, the cool cities are not suitable to all people in thie planet especailly in UAE. As we all know, UAE has large population that are from different communities and nationalities with different ways of life. With the different strateges of living and charachteristics that the cool city has, some people in UAE will manage thier lives and continue the life with those charachteristics. On the other hand, some people will be diffeicult for them to keep going under those circumstances. Some of the adaptation that would work here in UAE is the mechanical roofs that respond to the temperature. Those roofs will let the air to be cooled during the summer and it will stop the cooling system in order to let the natural breeze to cool the weather during the winter. The other charachteristic that would work in UAE is the system of canopies and umbrellas that shade the streets and giant fans which are placed at different locations to create a cool, artificial breeze. As UAE is located in a desert area besides the high temperatures that reached 50 c degrees during the summer, those unbrellas and fans will work. The third thing is the circulating of seawater under pavements. In my opinion, this solution will be considred as an important idea to reduce the global warming as UAE is located on the Arabian Gulf.
On the other hand, those cool cities have some charachteristics that I think they will not work well in UAE. For example, some people can't manage thier lives by not using the private transportations. Masdar's city is one of the cool cities in where people should walk or take public transport to get around. This charachteristic will not appeal to all people here in UAE. In addition, cool cities are desighned with small flats that will nit be accepted to every one in UAE as they used to live in wide spaces. Also, because UAE is acually a desert, cool water misters are not particularly efficient where water is scarce in a desert environment.
UAE is trying to reduce the effects of global warming by using different ways such as cool cities. Dubai for example now trying to make more carbon neutral free zones. The article below is from the NATIONAL, and it is talked about the free zones to become carbon neutral:
Cool Cities :)
Cool Cities are one of the important solutions that should be applied in order to reduce the effects of global warming on the earth and our planet. During all the last decades, people are keeping polluted the earth and the earth by increasing the emitted carbon dioxide in the air. Because of the economic developments, some problems are developed indeed such as the increasing of population and increasing of energy consumption. It is the time to walk towards the clean and healthy environment that having no dangerous concentration of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that harm the planet. It is the time to let every one how to reduce those emitted gases and how to be aware about our environment. If we don' solve all these problems, we of course lose our planet and will be not able to find out a clean place to live in. Cool cities as I mentioned before are good solutions to the global warming that are buliding by SDCJ from Japan. It is known that all cities with their industries and factories pollute the air by releasing gases and eliminating the green areas in order to develop the living there. But cool city is a city that doesn't harm the planet due to the perfect standards of living and specific charachteristics beside the various zones in it such as the business, cultural and resindental zones. Those cool cities contain different standards of living such as different transport systems including the light rail transit, hybrid cars and instant solar ships. They contain large ditances for walking with high quality of neighborhood andjobs that are located within those ditances. In addition, cool city has a perfect system to recycle the waste producte so that the city will be kept in a clean environment. It is expected to reduce about 80% of carbon dioxide by the buildings that are built on the cool cities. It has specail buildings that have spesific roofs in which can reduce the tempertures by 6 c. degrees. I hope those cities with their unique lifestyles will be attracting many people all over the world because they are really keeping our planet cleaner and reducing the bad effects of global warming.
Principles of One Planet Living.
It is important to design the communities in a sustainable way in order to achieve a sustainable future for the countries and people. There are about ten guiding principles that act as a framework to highlight the sustainability challenge in different situations. those principles will hel people to achieve the solutions for the global warming's issues. The first global challenge is the climate change due to building up carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere, and the principle is zeroing Carbon Dioxide by supplying energy from on-site renewable sources such as the sun light which is used nowadays in UAE. the second challenge is the increasing of waste from discarded products. The principle is zeroing the waste by encouraging re-use, recycling and composting. Air and noise pollution is considered as one of the important issues in the global warming and it is the third challenge. The priciple for it is sustainable transport by providing transport systems and infrastructure that reduce dependence on fossil fuel use. In addition, there are many challenges that face the people and for each challenge, there is a principle which is performed by applying different solutions. Those priciples include local and sustainable materials, local and sustainable food, sustainable water, natural habitats and wildlife, culture and heritage, equity and fair trade and health and happiness. If we worked hard here in UAE, we can apply all those princples.
The website's address below shows all those priciples. I hope it will be useful for you all.
My result of footprint
Reduce my footprint
There are many simple ways to reduce the footprint you leave on the planet. Learn how to reduce your footprint in each consumption category–carbon, food, housing, and goods and services—but don’t stop there. Amplify your impact by encouraging others to follow your lead. Engage your friends and community with local and global movements for social change, or start your own movement!
Reduce your Carbon Footprint
Use cleaner transport
Walk, bike, or take public transit whenever possible.
Avoid allowing your car to idle. If you’ll be waiting for more than 30 seconds, turn off the engine (except in traffic). And don’t take the drive-through—park the car and walk inside instead.
Have your vehicle serviced regularly to keep the emission control systems operating at peak efficiency. Check your car's air filter monthly, and keep the tires adequately inflated to maximize gas mileage.
Avoid short airplane trips—take a bus or train instead.
Add energy-saving features to your home
Install compact fluorescent bulbs in all your home light fixtures—but remember, compact fluorescents contain mercury, so look for low-mercury models and be sure to dispose of old bulbs safely through your local hazardous waste program.
Weatherproof your home. Make sure your walls and ceilings are insulated, and consider double-pane windows. Eliminate drafts with caulking, weather strips, and storm windows and doors.
Insulate your water heater. Even better, switch to a tankless water heater, so your water will be heated only as you use it.
Choose energy efficient appliances.
Adopt energy-saving habits
Keep thermostat relatively low in winter and ease up on the air conditioning in summer. Clean or replace dirty air conditioner filters as recommended to keep the A/C operating at peak efficiency.
Unplug your electronics when not in use. To make it easier, use a power strip. Even when turned off, items like your television, computer, and cellphone charger still sip power.
Dry your clothes outside whenever possible.
Make minimal use of power equipment when landscaping.
Defrost your refrigerator and freezer regularly.
Choose green electricity. Many utilities give you the option to purchase electricity generated by wind and solar power for a small rate surcharge.
Purchase carbon offsets to make up for the energy use you can’t eliminate.
Reduce your Food Footprint
Eat more local, organic, in-season foods.
Plant a garden—it doesn’t get more local than that.
Shop at your local farmer’s market or natural foods store. Look for local, in-season foods that haven’t traveled long distances to reach you.
Choose foods with less packaging to reduce waste.
Eat lower on the food chain—going meatless for just one meal a week can make a difference. Globally, it has been estimated that 18% of all greenhouse gas emissions are associated with meat consumption.
Reduce your Housing Footprint
Choose sustainable building materials, furnishings, and cleaning products.
Explore green design features for your building, like passive solar heating, a rainwater catchment or grey water recycling system, and recycled materials.
Choose efficient appliances, including low flow shower heads, faucets, and toilets.
Choose furnishings that are second-hand, recycled, or sustainably produced.
Plant drought tolerant plants in your garden and yard.
Use biodegradable, non-toxic cleaning products.
Adopt water-saving habits
Take shorter, less frequent showers—this not only saves water, but the energy necessary to heat it.
Don’t use the garbage disposal. Compost instead.
Run the dishwasher and the laundry machine only when full.
Wash cars rarely, or better yet, take them to a carwash. Commercial carwashes use less water per wash than home washers, and they are also required to drain used water into the sewage system, rather than storm drains, which protects aquatic life.
Avoid hosing down or power-washing your deck, walkways, or driveway.
Regularly look for and fix leaks.
Reduce your Goods and Services Footprint
Buy less! Replace items only when you really need to.
Recycle all your paper, glass, aluminum, and plastic. Don’t forget electronics!
Compost food waste for the garden. Garbage that is not contaminated with degradable (biological) waste can be more easily recycled and sorted, and doesn't produce methane gases (a significant greenhouse gas contributor) when stored in a landfill.
Buy recycled products, particularly those labeled "post-consumer waste."
Definition + causes and effects of the global warming
A global warming is one of the most dangerous problems that face the humanity and the whole world. Global warning is the name that is given to all the environmental problems that cause a lot of damage on the earth and the ecosphere around it. It contains the air pollution, sand pollution, water pollution, ice melting, diversity, loss of food and water, loss of energy and even the loss of land that we live on it.
There are a lot of causes that lead to the global warming. The most common one is the greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane and ozone. The largest contributing source of these gases is the fossil fuels when they are burnt. They have a bad effect on the earth when they absorb the sunlight radiated back to the earth leading to reflecting back of the heat energy by atmosphere. This energy will then lead to other problems that considered as parts of the global warming. One of these problems and effects is increasing the temperature on the earth which then leads to other major effect, rising of sea levels. This increase in the temperature melts the land ice. As a result, the sea and ocean levels will be increased leading to destroy the beaches of many islands. Actually, there are by now some islands that no longer exist because of the global warming.
Many people think that caring and thinking about global warnings in these times is not necessary and it wastes the time. They think that it is too early to think about it. They don’t even know that they are the main reason for global warnings. One day, they will find themselves in a close circle of the environmental problems that they can’t escape from it. On the other hand, there are some people that have feelings and care about the earth and the pollution on it. If we all help each other, we will be able to save the humanity and the whole world form the global warnings.
My Opinion
From my watching of An Inconvenient Truth movie, I can see that Al Gore shows the effects of the global warming on the earth in future. As Algore said, there are many problems will happen in future but on the other hand, there are solutions that we can do in these days in order to solve these problems. From the movie, Al Gore shows the main solution is to reduce the greenhouse gases that come from factories, cars and other human activities. I think that he was right because he shows the statistics prove these problems such as rising of sea levels, droughts and high temperatures, which are starting to be obvious. I hope evre one follows the solutions for saving the earth from global warming in future and makes the life beautiful for our children.
